Not a whole heap to report over the past couple of days.
Deb had another good shift at the hospital on Friday while I had the day off to recoup from being sick. It also gave me a chance to sort some stuff out with our accommodation. On Monday I’m going with the projects abroad director here to get a new mattress which should improve our sleeping significantly.
I also booked us into a bed and breakfast for the weekend. It’s bloody nice! For $80 per night, we get 2 beds which we’re using to help us sleep better, we’re still only 5mins from the city, the hosts are really nice and accommodating and will make us whatever food we want. Sauna, gym, table tennis, free Internet, beautiful rooms and unlike most of Romania, everything works! The best part is, we’re getting a chance to rest up, stay warm and hopefully speed up the recovery process.
As such, we didn’t do anything much yesterday (Saturday) until the night when we organized a dinner with all the other volunteers. Including us, we had 5 Australians, 2 Americans, an Austrian, a Brit and a Swiss. Dinner at the pizza place was good fun, got to share experiences and stories along with tips about the city & people.
We then ventured to a Bob Marley themed pub. Got talking to some locals and obviously a few drinks and we had a ripper night.
Given we were with a bunch of young single girls, we had to kick on to a more club-type venue. The girls have been here a while and know the spots, so we tagged along. The place we stopped at was an underground nightclub a few mins walk from the main street. It did dawn on me that this is pretty cool – having a drink in a place like that isn’t something you do everyday. I also learnt that whilst the Romanians are good gymnasts, they can’t dance for shit. I tried showing them a few moves but they became intimidated by my awesomeness. We left 30mins later as the heavy smoke was playing havoc with our colds.
Today (Sunday) we’re just relaxing again. We’re definitely on the mend so that’s good but it’s disappointing we can’t get out and do more, but there’s still plenty of time for that. I’ve got tomorrow and Tuesday off due to a WSPA conference at the bear sanctuary, so not sure what I’ll do. Plenty of options though!
